Don't take this the wrong way ... I'm not an anti-Christmas scrooge. My family celebrates the holidays, we even exchange gifts. We put a lot of thought into the gifts we exchange, so rather than giving for the sake of giving a physical item, we give to show appreciation to the other party. I believe that unnecessary consumption around the holidays is out of control. I recently saw this picture and it really hit home...
I challenge people this holiday season to take toll of what the holidays really mean to you. Perhaps ponder a charitable gift in that sea of giving. I want to raise my children to appreciate the luxuries we have here in Canada, while staying in tune with the reality of poverty and illness that many face on a daily basis around the globe. I want them to give thanks at the holidays for the people in their lives, for our beautiful planet, and for our ability to help those in need.
