RAIN SUITS
Every child needs one of these. Whether seven months or seven years old, a splash suit is an instant fix to the "what to wear outside in this mess" question. I secretly wish adult versions were available. A good one will withstand everything from muddy puddles to rainforest downpours.
Check out Mountain Equipment Co-op's "Newt Suit". Double taped seams & high quality materials (the same used in their adult breathable rainwear) make this suit top notch in my books. It even has a brimmed hood for the munchkins. Excellent packability as it will fold/roll up into it's own hood! I've actually started packing all of our rain jackets like this.
We packed one on our trip to Ecuador last summer 'just in case'. The purpose of it served two-fold: to keep malaria-ridden mosquitoes away from my 5-month old baby's flesh, and to keep whatever else the Amazon threw our way out.
All in all a quality product. They're rather hard to come by, though.

SPLASH PANTS
We also have a pair of splash pants with flannel lining, also a fantastic addition to a toddler's wardrobe. Great for mucking about in the sandbox or general backyard shenanigans when full body coverage isn't necessary.

RASH GUARDS / SPF CLOTHING
The key to sun protection is to cover up. Especially if you don't want to use copious amounts of sunblock (and NO sunscreen) like us.
- Light weight cotton long sleeved shirts for land
- Long sleeved rash guards for swimming
- Hats
- Sunglasses
- Seek out shade when possible :)
